Communications Intern
The communications intern will work alongside Biola’s communications manager, Janelle Kruly, to assist in large and small-scale projects concerning internal communications to the Biola University student community. This position provides a great opportunity for a public relations, marketing, communications or business major to gain strategic communications experience while developing hands-on skills through the implementation of a variety of tactics.
Job Duties
- Contribute to strategic communications plans to support university-wide and co-curricular programs and events (ex. Commencement, Hispanic Heritage Month, Mental Health Awareness Week, Torrey Conference)
- Assist in drafting a variety of mass email communication to support the university. Build emails and target segmented populations using the system, Customer.io.
- Build and curate content for the weekly Student Life Newsletter to inform the undergraduate community of co-curricular opportunities and resources.
- Draft and post updates on the Biola App, with the goal of informing and engaging the campus community in conversations.
- Design digital signs to support campus messaging using templates or Canva; assist in managing content on the digital signage system Carousel
- Open graphic design jobs for posters, assist with approving and hanging up posters on occasion
- Create analytic reports on email communication, mobile app, and Student Life Blog
- Brainstorm content ideas and contribute to the Student Life Blog
Qualifications
- Excellent writing/editing/grammatical skills, with an eye for details and catching mistakes
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; experience with email distribution platforms is preferred
- Detail-oriented, self-starter, ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated interest in serving the Biola undergraduate student community
- Own an iPhone or Android that is able to access the Biola App
- Some experience with professional journalism, PR, communications and/or marketing
- Knowledge of AP Style is preferred
- Experience with graphic design (ex. Canva) a plus
General Information
